It’s Performance and It Matters!!!
If you were to ask a lay man what self-performance was like, the chances are that you would be met with faces of confusion, different understandings and explanations. The fact is that self-performance is not as scary or confusing as it may initially sound: essentially, it is how competent you perceive yourself to be in a given situation. For example: for sportsmen, it would be the confidence they have in themselves to perform in their sport.
‘Performance’ is a factor of importance across several aspects of life, defined as involving processes of knowledge, ability, and skill development. It is a metric to assess competence related to a given situation or task. Performance has many factors of potential impact, which could relate to resilience, stress, emotions, human thriving, or environmental/cultural organisational factors, to name a few.
Self-analysis is another important aspect which helps you to introspect and perform well. Self-analysis is nothing but analyzing and evaluating your abilities, talents and expertise. This helps the person to easily recognize their individual strength and weakness.
The process of self- analysis and development includes:
I. Developing and Analysing Awareness about Self
II. Adopting Methods of Development after Conducting the Awareness Analysis.
And here are some important checklists list for self-analysis and development:
- Set goals; what is to be done and how,
- Take actions to achieve those goals,
- Control the external stimuli affecting the development,
- Introduce changes when required rather than follow changes, and
- Measure the progress towards development in the light of goals set
Most people recognize that execution is a critical skill and strive to perform it well, but they usually underestimate how important it is to their career advancement or not realize that you can improve on execution without exerting more.
Below are 4 set of behaviours that improve execution i.e:
- Be clear and methodical,
- Set stretch goals and deadlines,
- Give more feedback, especially more positive feedback, and
- Resolve conflict and build team unity
Everyone has dreams and goals, but some lack a method and vision for success; while others are just not afraid to pursue their potentially life changing ideas because they are not terrified of failure. If you are looking to take lateral action and make a life change of some sort? Why not try a little reverse engineering for your goals?
Starting off by visioning a successfully completed goal and imagining what was required to get me there in simple terms is reverse engineering.
The four keys to reverse engineering for success are:
- Determine the grandest level of the goal.
- Ensure that you are committed.
- Identify as many steps as possible that are required to reach the goal.
- Take action!
There is a very famous quote by Isiah Thomas which is “I’ve always believed no matter how many shots I miss, I’m going to make the next one.” and that is what performance enhancement is all about.
